Creative Commons Licensing for Videos

For the first time, in a production for ESA, we are sharing a video under a Creative Commons licence. In particular we are releasing it under the so-called “NoDerivatives” version of the licence, ported for use by intergovernmental organisations (IGOs) including ESA, referred to in short as CC BY-ND 3.0 IGO.

Essentially the licence allows you to copy and redistribute the videos in any medium or format for any format, even commercially. You can publish them on your blog or elsewhere but note there are some restrictions if you remix, transform or build upon the material.

You can do all of this without our additional permission, as long as you clearly credit the source and link to the licence e.g. “ESA - European Space Agency, Design & Data GmbH, CC BY-ND 3.0 IGO”. You may do so in any reasonable manner but not in a way that suggests we endorse you or your use.

The video animation “Living with Space 4.0”, released under this licence for the ESA Ministerial Council 2016 explores the benefits of space for us all in our everyday lives. Interested people can download the video at ESA Space In Videos.
